There is lots of excitement surrounding ONE on Prime Video 4 on Friday, November 18, as the stacked card features a pair of world champion vs. world champion showdowns for fan to enjoy.
One of those title fights is the clash between ONE strawweight muay Thai world champion Joseph “The Hurricane” Lasiri and ONE flyweight muay Thai world champion Rodtang “The Iron Man” Jitmuangnon.
The reigning strawweight king is going for greatness when he challenges the Thai legend for his flyweight throne, and best of all, fans can witness it for free with thanks to their Amazon subscription.
However, to fulfill his striking destiny in ONE Championship, here are three things Lasiri must do to leave the Singapore Indoor Stadium as a “champ-champ.”
1. Control the pace
This isn’t Lasiri’s first dance in ONE’s flyweight division. And although he didn’t have the greatest run in that weight class, he experienced new success at strawweight, having dethroned Thai living legend Prajanchai PK.Saenchai for the strap.
Now he returns to the flyweight division as a new man, a man who knows how to control the pace of a ONE world title fight.
Lasiri will have to put that pace on Rodtang, who is known to walk his opponents down and throw ripping punches.
2. Throw striking combos
Lasiri mixes up his muay Thai combinations very well, evident in his dethroning of Prajanchai.
However, Rodtang has seen a lot in his storied career and reads his opposition well. The Italian stallion must remember that, but he can’t reserve too much respect for the reigning flyweight king.
That said, Lasiri should use his brilliant combos and get wild with spinning strikes in close quarters. If he lands with even one shot, he could make Rodtang emotional and force him to lose control. Then “The Hurricane” could capitalize with a slew of strikes.
3. Be agile
Lasiri’s agility has made him one of the most elusive characters in ONE Championship. His exciting, don’t-blink approach to fighting has been what’s propelled him from a forgettable run at flyweight to a dominant campaign at strawweight.
His fluidity mixed with his excellent gas tank will create an array of issues for Rodtang. However, the Italian’s style is not as patient as his rival’s, so the strawweight king must stay weary of the destructive counters that the Thai possesses.
But if he manages to bounce around, pick his shots, and avoid a dog fight with Rodtang, Lasiri could be the first man to do what no other flyweight in ONE has been able to do – defeat him in muay Thai.
