The 2017 European Jiu-Jitsu IBJJF Championship is underway in Lisbon, Portugal. The Championship is running full speed this year with six days of back-to-back competition running through January 22. Some of the world’s top black belts are competing at the event this year, including three-time IBJJF World champion Leandro Lo, as well as four-time IBJJF World champion Rubens ‘Cobrinha’ Charles. We’ll also see 56-year-old Helvecio Penna, a well-known inspiration in the jiu-jitsu community, competing against men 30 years younger than him.
This Championship is the largest Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournament held in Europe by the IBJJF. Since its creation in 2004, this Championship has been held in Lisbon and has seen consistent growth every year.
