The Ultimate Fighter and American Gladiators got busy in the bathroom of a crazy Russian bar, and thus was Hip Show: Arena Combat begat. The Russian series aired on AXS TV, and recently made its US debut.
Arena Combat 1: Southeast Trials was produced by Cyrus Fees, president, and Casey Oxendine, CEO. The event was held at the Bearcat Den gymnasium, Virginia High School, Bristol, VA on Aug 9.
The rules are a little complicated, notably when it comes to points:
•The contests are two against two.
•Each match consists of three, three-minute rounds.
•You can can win by tapping out both members of the opposing team, knocking out both members of the opposing team, or by points.
•Points are scored for possession of Cake & Table perimeter as well as for standing on the upper surface of other figures. I don’t know what this means.
•Points are also scored as follows:
1 point for lifting an opponent and throwing to the ground;
1 point for head kick;
3 points for knockdown;
4 point for holding of Table;
5 points for holding of Hill; and,
6 points for holding of Arrows.
The fighters bought into this concept whole-heartedly, and gave 200% in each and every fight, said Fees. Not enough can be said about these incredible athletes, and it is an amazing way to start our American product!
Broadcast agreements are reportedly pending.
While we cannot announce a television deal at this moment, we can say that the interest is there, and the events of August 9th, 2014 have taken this company to a new level, Oxendine. You can see a taste of it in this new highlight reel, but the full product will blow you away. Arena Combat is here, and the only direction is up!
What is your reaction UG? Did you say to your self ‘I can’t wait to learn this in my dojang’? Did you wonder ‘how is this legal?’ Or both?
