10X UFC vet Costas Philippou retires at age 35
UFC VP of public relations Dave Sholler reports that Greek Cypriot UFC middleweight Costas Philippou has retired at the age of 35, with a record of 13-5, with one NC.

UFC VP of public relations Dave Sholler has announced that Greek Cypriot UFC middleweight Costas Philippou has retired at the age of 35.
He has indicated to UFC that he has retired,” tweeted Sholler. “That should end the speculation for you.”
Philippou came to the US to pursue a career as a professional boxer, and went 3-0 in 2006-2007, before a dispute with management turned him towards MMA.
Philippou started out in Lou Neglia’s storied Ring of Combat, losing his first, but then putting together a string of seven wins in the organization, and one NC, including a win over Uriah Hall. History repeated itself in the UFC, with Philippou losing his first, and then putting together a five fight win streak.
That streak was so good he entered the UFC top 10 and was nearing title contention. However, as a member of Team Serra-Longo, that put him on a course with teammate Chris Weidman.
In May of 2013 Philippou respectfully switched camps to Bellmore Kickboxing Academy. He went just 1-3 thereafter, and is now apparently retired.
The UnderGround wishes him every success in the world in his future endeavors.
