Following up on our previous instalment of Anderson ‘The Spider’ Silva’s early Muay Thai career, we take a look at another one of his Muay Thai rules bouts in his home country of Brazil.
In this particular match up we see a much younger Anderson Silva – who is listed on the tale of the tape as a Karate fighter – taking on Batista (no not the Pro Wrestler) who is a Brazilian Muay Thai stylist. The weight this bout is being contested at is 165lb.

Unlike the much more patient and methodical counter striker we got to witness in his UFC run, this version of Anderson Silva appears to implement a more aggressive strategy comprising of very wild punching combinations mixed in with kicks to his opponents lead leg and body. Interestingly whenever the fight enters the clinch range it appears Anderson had yet to develop the devastating techniques that made him famous, with Batista managing to control the action as well as land the more meaningful knee strikes to the body.
Despite that deficiency Anderson still manages to out land and outwork Batista for most of the bout, knocking him into the ropes on several occasions until he backs him into a corner and seals with the deal with a blitzing combination to signal a stoppage from the referee.
