Challenge matches used to be common in the martial arts world. Before
the UFC nobody knew what really worked and were compelled to test
their skills against another martial artist of different school or
different martial art entirely. While it is not as common in today’s
world as there are other avenues to test one’s skill, challenge
matches still occur in certain circles.
In this YouTube video from 2013 what started out as a friendly
challenge match quickly got out of hand and resulted in somebody
getting knocked out.
While the google translation of the video description is a little
rough, from what I gathered one group showed up in ‘vehicles’ and
challenged this particular gym and one of its members to a friendly
challenge match, at least that’s how it started.

The description references knee strikes and you can see both guys
going over knee strike rules before the match began. Most likely they
were going over that knee strikes to the head are not allowed, but to
the body they are OK (common in sparring type settings). That
particular fact I believe led to one guy eventually losing his temper.
The action starts just before the two minute mark. You can tell pretty
quickly the guy in the yellow shorts is a muay thai practitioner. His
opponent’s style is not as clear. I’d guess sanda/sanshou if not muay
thai as well. His leg kicks look pretty good.
Pink shirt looks to be taking it easy at first and yellow shorts seems
to be going a little harder. Words are exchanged, most likely in an
attempt to try to tone it down. Notice muay thai guy bringing those
knees up high which was discussed beforehand.

Shortly thereafter, pink shirt starts pouring it on, delivering a
series of big punches that drop his opponent and he continues hitting
him until being pulled off by bystanders. Perhaps his opponent should
have toned it down when asked.
