With low kicks being one of the most effective and crippling strikes you can have in your standup arsenal, it makes sense to also know how to discourage your opponent from returning the favor.

This was demonstrated to full effect most famously at UFC 168 when Chris Weidman checked a low kick from Anderson Silva which resulted in gruesome snap of Silva’s right fibula and tibia upon contact.

“That was the number one thing I got hit with in the first fight, so I did work a lot against guys with good kicks and was working on checking them a lot. I did think that if he’s going to go that hard on kicks, as he usually does, if I catch it on my knee it could really hurt him. But it’s still crazy how that happened.” Weidman shared post fight.

So following up on the previous installment regarding low kicks, Shane Fazen of fightTIPS is here to share how you can block your opponents leg kicks and potentially break their shins in the process.

Throughout the video you’ll learn about shin conditioning, which part of the shin to strike with, bracing yourself as well as counter attackers after checking your opponents low kick.
