It’s the question that spawned the UFC: which martial art is the most superior? In this video, we see two skilled fighters put their chosen martial art to the ultimate test as a muay thai practicioner faces off with a karateka. Now the video does appear to be edited, so there’s a chance that the karateka got the upper hand at some point. But from what is shown, this muay thai fighter batters the karateka with fierce leg kicks until he ultimately scores a knockout with a lead leg head kick. What’s interesting is that the head kick wasn’t even loaded up. The muay thai fighter whipped the head kick up there without stepping or even loading his hips first, as we traditionally see with big knockouts.
In this case, the muay thai fighter went with speed and accuracy over power and it paid off big time. The karateka’s legs had already been chopped down in the first few rounds and the muay thai fighter knew that a precision head strike would finish the fight. The question of which martial art is the most superior will probably never be answered, but if you’re keeping score with this video, it’s Muay Thai: 1 and Karate: 0.
Karate is predominantly a striking art using punching, kicking, knee strikes, elbow strikes and open hand techniques such as knife-hands, spear-hands, and palm-heel strikes. Historically and in some modern styles grappling, throws, joint locks, restraints, and vital point strikes are also taught. A karate practitioner is called a karateka. Muay thai is a combat sport of Thailand that uses stand-up striking along with various clinching techniques. This physical and mental discipline which includes combat on shins is known as “the art of eight limbs” because it is characterized by the combined use of fists, elbows, knees, shins, being associated with a good physical preparation that makes a full-contact fighter very efficient. Muay Thai became widespread internationally in the twentieth century, when practitioners defeated notable practitioners of other martial arts.
