Buakaw cuts down banana tree with kicks
In this video, Buakaw, also know by his fight name, The White Lotus, can be seen squaring up to the banana tree. The tree completely unaware of the danger that he is in, stands calm.
Banana trees are never going to be the same. Once upon a time, grown the world over, exclusively to produce a delicious, yellow fruit, the Thai people have found a much more sadistic use for these humble trees. Instead of enjoying the tasty, fibrous, and easy to eat on the run, fruit of the banana tree, they are using them as heavy bags. Buakaw Banchamek is perhaps one of the most well know figures in Muay Thai. Having competed in over 250 professional kickboxing bouts, he is a 2-time K-1 MAX Champion, and has put away more than 60 of his opponents via stoppage.

Buakaw unleashes a battle cry that can only be described as somewhere between, you’re not going to like me when I’m angry and an old dude sneezing., followed by an onslaught of kicks, punches, knees, and elbows. The obviously undertrained and overmatched banana tree is doubled over quickly, by Banchamek’s brutal body kicks, and finished off, being mercifully uprooted by vicious low kicks.
I’ve seen this video no less than 100 times, and I’m still not 100% sure what the banana tree did to Buakaw to deserve the beating that he took on that day. It’s been said that the tree was continually disrespectful towards Buakaw. Buakaw has even been on record saying, I can stand tough training, but not poor treatment. It’s about mind, not the body. To that I say, handle your business bro. If that tree did the crime, then he deserved to pay the time. I guess this is just another case of street justice being served.
