WWE’s Shane McMahon went to surprising lengths to prepare for his ‘Hell In A Cell’ match against ‘The Undertaker’ at Wrestlemania 32 in 2016, with his training camp resembling that of an MMA fighter as he worked on his Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu techniques.

The 47-year-old McMahon is the son of WWE owner Vince McMahon, and like his father, he is primarily a businessman who has a minority stake in the company, among other endeavors.

However, following in his father’s footsteps, the 6ft 2, 236lb McMahon has also been known to compete in the ring over the years, going up against major stars like The Rock, Randy Orton, Kane, Shawn Michaels, Mankind, Big Show and Kurt Angle to name but a few.

McMahon resigned from the WWE in 2009, but seven years later in February of 2016 he made a surprise return and set up a major match with one of pro wrestling’s all-time greats, ‘The Undertaker’ at Wrestlemania 32, just a few months later.

In the build-up to the fight, McMahon revealed that he’d actually been training in Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for several years as a way to stay in shape, and so he decided to incorporate those skills into both his training camp and fighting style for the ‘Hell In A Cell’ match-up.

McMahon sought the help of two of the best coaches in the game to help train him, including highly respected Muay Thai coach Phil Nurse, who is best known for work as UFC superstar Georges St-Pierre’s striking coach.

Meanwhile, For his BJJ training, McMahon went to none other than Renzo Gracie, a former MMA fighter who is considered one of the most charismatic and respected coaches in his field.

McMahon’s training wasn’t all for the show as he would go on to incorporate some of the moves shown here in his eventual match with ‘The Undertaker’, throwing punches, leg kicks and going for several submission moves, including triangle choke and rear-naked choke attempts.

However, the biggest moment of the match was unquestionably when McMahon risked life and limb by leaping from the top of the cell onto a table 20ft beneath him.

McMahon would go on to lose the match but earned the respect of his peers for his courage and fearlessness.
