This my friends, is a heavyweight MMA match between Svetlana Goundarenko and Kyoko Inoue. The match took place at Remix World Cup all the way back in the year 2000. Now I know you’re wondering – how gosh darn big are these ladies? Well, to put it bluntly – very! Kyoko Inoue, maybe not so much, as she stands at 5’6 and 220 pounds. But Svetlana Goundarenko in all of her glory is an impressive 6’3 and 330 pounds! To put that in perspective, she is heavier than every single heavyweight on the current UFC roster (cut off is 265 pounds.)

Back in 2000, men’s MMA was still barely understood by the masses, let alone accepted. The Fertitta brothers hadn’t even bought the UFC yet at this point. That still didn’t stop Neo Japan Ladies Pro Wrestling from blazing a trail and putting on a 12 woman, single night, MMA tournament. The grand prize was 10 million yen, or about 100,000 US dollars at the time. So hopefully all of that information helps put this video into context for you. This match took place in the first round of the tournament, with Svetlana Goundarenko already holding a 3-1 MMA record. According to the internet, Kyoko Inoue was a professional wrestler but had never fought in MMA before (or after) this fight. So when all 330 pounds of Goundarenko was lying on top of Kyoko, it is somewhat understandable that she was a bit out of her comfort zone. Now biting an opponent is never acceptable but anyone who has been caught in a tight guillotine or head and arm choke will tell you, the thought will cross your mind at some point. Luckily, the ref saw what happened, gave Kyoko a quick bop on the head and a yellow card to boot. Goundarenko went on to win the fight just a few minutes later with the same submission she was attempting at the time of the bite. Poetic justice!
