Japan can be an odd place.
I mean, when you think about ‘Japan’, first thing that comes to mind has a good chance to be something crazy. Always in the avant-garde, Japan never fails to deliver WTF moments on a daily basis.
It is then no wonder that Japanese MMA and combat sports promotions were (and still are) influenced by the Land of the Rising Sun’s craziness.

In its long history, the Japanese MMA scene brought us legendary fighters, epic fights, and a whole lot of ‘freak shows’… I’m talking crazy, surreal match-ups.
A 170 lbs man wearing a speedo against a Heavyweight KickBoxing veteran? Sure, let’s book it. Tiny brazilian Jiu-Jitsu legend against a huge sumo wrestler? Yep, sure.
You’re catching my drift here. There was a time in Japan when MMA events virtually had no limits.
Consider the K-1 Promotion’s PREMIUM 2006 Dynamite!! event held on December, 31 2006 in Osaka, Japan for instance.
One of the highlights of this night of hybrid fights (MMA and kickboxing) was a surreal showdown between American-born Sumo wrestler Akebono and Brazilian Pro-wrestler-turned-MMA-fighter Paulo César da Silva, aka Giant Silva.
Why such nickname, you might ask?
The guy stands at whooping 7 feet and 2 inches (2.18m) and weights 385 pounds (175kg)!
His opponent Akebono, 6 feet and 8 inches (2.03m) for 460 pounds (210kg) ( !!), had nothing to be jealous of, though.
So what happens when two BEHEMOTHS of men, freak of nature fighters clash in a ring?
