Having a ‘play’ fight with UFC Hall-of-Famer Matt Hughes is a terrible idea that’s inevitably going to end in pain and humiliation, as ‘Punkass’ from ‘Tapout’ found out back in 2007.
Back then Hughes had not long since lost his welterweight title to Georges St-Pierre but was still considered one of the most dominant fighters in the history of the sport, having claimed the 170lb belt on two consecutive occasions and successfully defended it nine times.
At the time the ‘Tapout’ clothing brand and it’s three founders, ‘Mask’, ‘Skyscraper’ and ‘Punkass’ were also hugely successful and even had their own self-titled show airing on the Versus channel, which ran for two seasons.
It was during one of those episodes that they met up with Hughes in his hometown and accompanied him to do an autograph signing at a store that was attended by over 2,000 people.

Afterward, Hughes and Dan Caldwell, aka ‘Punkass’ got carried away and started to engage in some good-natured horseplay in the store that soon turned into a makeshift MMA fight.
Unfortunately for ‘Punkass’, Hughes wasn’t going easy on him, punching him to the body from the clinch and then landing a solid kick to the ribs.
It only got worse for him from there as the legendary fighter caught him with another ruthless kick to the body that took the wind out of his sails and dropped him to the floor.
He hits me with a kick, and I don’t even like to wince at a body shot, but man, I don’t know what came over me – I just became an overnight wimp! Punkass ruefully admitted afterward.

Hughes would go on to fight in the UFC for four more years after this video was filmed, before retiring with a 45-9 record in 2011.
However, after an almost six-year absence from the sport, the now 43-year-old Hughes revealed recently that he’s considering a comeback.
