China’s premier mixed martial arts promotion, ONE Championship, has quickly made a name for itself not only by featuring many fighters from the Far East, who most fans may not have otherwise been made aware, but also by assembling a stable of dynamic fighters with a wide variety of stylistic backgrounds.
At ONE Championship’s recent Dynasty of Champions event from Helong Stadium in Changsha, Hunan, China, local debuting fighters Tang De Pan and Zhou Biao locked horns to see who would leave their first professional mixed martial arts match victorious and who would begin their career by becoming acquainted with the agony of defeat.
At the opening bell, the fighters quickly engaged and Biao was able to briefly take Zhou’s back before slamming him to the mat. Biao and Zhou then spent a few moments battling for position on the ground before rising to their feet.
The fighters wasted no time getting ahold of each other once more, and Zhou was able to immediately lock on what looked to be a pretty tight guillotine. As soon as Zhou locked in the choke and jumped guard, Biao immediately grabbed his opponent and propelled him backwards. Zhou is fortunate to have turned his head and body at just the right time to not bear the full brunt of the suplex, but his luck would not last.
While Zhou was seeking to tighten up on the choke, Biao again grabbed him around the waist and threw him backwards, causing Zhou to faceplant on the mat, rendering him unconscious. Biao followed it up with a soccer kick to the head (a move allowed by One Fighting) as referee Olivier Coste dove in to call a halt to the action.
