The fight starts with the fighters circling to their left. Smith throws a lazy, reaching right hand, then a fake southpaw jab and another right hook. Unfortunately for Smith, all the punches missed.

Feririck simply stepped to his left and threw a left hook and a right hook. The right hook landed and sent Smith hurling toward the cage floor. And that was all she wrote. Robert Feririck gets the TKO victory in seven short seconds.

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is one of the most physically and mentally challenging sports there is. On television it may seem like nothing more than a brutal combat sport, but beyond the caged octagon there is a lot more going on which goes unnoticed.

Leading up to a competition, there are endless MMA training exercises that a fighter utilizes.

They push the boundaries and test the very limits of their mental and physical toughness to see what their body is truly capable of.

All things considered, there really is an artistic aspect to exercising when you take into account the time, effort and attention to detail that goes into sculpting the human frame in preparation for competition.

MMA workouts can seem complex, difficult, and intense at times, but they are designed to be for a reason. If you can incorporate any aspect of an MMA workout routine into your daily regime, you too could develop the necessary tools and talent to become the next top notch human art form.

Fitness lovers have always looked to combat sports such as boxing and kickboxing for a fast-paced cardio workout. But as MMA’s fan base grows, some boxing gyms are ceding time and space to the sport.
