The sport of Mixed Martial Arts has been around a lot longer than most people believe, however; it was introduced to the world on a cold evening in Denver, Colorado on November 12, 1993, and called the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

The premise was beautiful in its simplicity: to simply answer the question of which martial art is most effective. Fast forward over 20 years and we now have a sport that jockeys for top position in popularity in many countries.

Although the sport has evolved, the original question that was set out to be answered is still one that intrigues people to this day and just like the early UFCs, a lot of strange things continually happen in this sport which, believe it or not, is still in its infancy.

In the video below, we take a look at some of the strangest moments in not just Mixed Martial Arts but in combat sports in general. In the beginning, the problem was no one really knew exactly what the rules were as the Unified rule set of Mixed Martial Arts wasn’t clearly defined until much later after the initial inception of Mixed Martial Arts and thus some very strange behavior was the result.

Even today there are instances where the ‘clearly defined’ rules are not so clearly defined and some very large mistakes with lasting effects have been made. Furthermore, as recently as the Jake Ellenberger/Jorge Masvidal fight, situations are still arising that have never been seen before.

So check out the video below to witness some of the craziest, strangest, and weirdest moments in combat sports.
