Dave Roy, BJJ black belt and author of 1001 Submissions, tells us how the Jordanian Nightmare could have quickly ended the fight.
The opponent’s dreadlocks were such that a conventional rear naked choke would have been much less effective, due to the mass of the hair. Instead, The Nightmare should have employed The Short Choke, that attacks the windpipe, instead of the carotid.
Further, without hooks in, The Nightmare had inadequate control.
However, Roy adds that the biggest problem was that this took place without proper supervision.
The two start the fight as is customary with instructions from the referee and a respectful touch of gloves. The fight begins with a little bit of hesitation by both fighters to engage. The moves them back to the center of the ‘arena’ and the two begin to throw wild punches at each other, with neither really landing any significant strikes. It is not a very technical battle.
In an exchange, the ‘Jordanian Nightmare’ is able to grab a standing headlock choke and drag the fight to the ground. Although he does work the back of his opponent and lock up a choke, he is unable to finish it.
The fight is stood back up and another wild exchange ends with the fight hitting the ground, but this time the ‘Nightmare’ is able to secure top mount position, land some solid punches, and the referee jumps in to stop the fight.
