Back in July former interim UFC heavyweight champion Shane Carwin announced via the Underground that he was going to come out of his five year retirement.

Although most people assumed that it would be back inside of the Octagon, it was revealed shortly after that he had been granted a release from his contract.

“I am now a free agent. The heavyweight division has a lot of great fights and not all of them are in the UFC. I want to prove to myself and my fans that I belong at the top of the division. Today that journey begins.”

So which promotion was going to be the new home for the knockout juggernaut?

Well first things first he would need to shake a bit of the ring rust off and the person who would welcome Carwin back would be none other than radio personality and pro-skateboarder Jason Ellis.

Headlining ‘Ellismania 13’, Carwin and Ellis squared off in an exhibition boxing match with a twist – that Carwin had to fight with his right arm duct taped to his body to help even the odds as he held a considerable size advantage.

Having previously trained at Team Quest and defeating TUF vet Gabe Ruediger, the radio host managed to survive one knockout and getting almost thrown out the ring until Carwin landed a vicious lead left hook in round two putting Ellis out for the count.
