CBS recently did a segment in which Muslim residents and citizens of the US discuss the biggest misconceptions about their faith.
The list includes:
•Dr. Hussein Matari, Chief of Radiology at New York’s Metropolitan Hospital;
•Adeel Rana, NYPD Lieutenant, and president of the Muslim Officers Society;
•Ibtihaj Muhammad, member of the United States fencing team.
•Rep. André Carson of Indiana’s 7th district, who serves on the House intelligence committee; ans,
•Kamal Shalorus, ONE Championship lightweight!
“People, are confusing these radical people with Muslims,” explained Shalorus. “These are not Muslim, these radical people – some crazy people.”
Rep. André Carson focused on the positive side.
“Muslim’s are making tremendous contributions as we speak,” said Carson. “As businessmen and women who are hiring American’s and putting American’s back to work. Go to any major hospital, you will find a Muslim physician. You go to a courtroom, you will find a Muslim lawyer, or even a judge. And you’ll find Muslim police officers. You’ll find Muslim servicemen and women who are keeping our country safe.
The Iran born Shalorus fought in the WEC and UFC. He was released by the UFC following successive losses to a murder’s row of Jim Miller, Khabib Nurmagomedov, and now division champion Rafael dos Anjos. Incidentally, Nurmagomedov too is Muslim.
Shalorus has gone 2-1 in ONE Championship; his sole loss was to champion Shinya Aoki.
