In the world of MMA, martial arts such as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, Boxing, Wrestling, and now Karate & Taekwondo have been the primary tools that the fighters have been keeping in their tool box.
Although the sport is still young, many of the fighters have become to look like carbon copies of each other. Many fighters end up using the same techniques over and over making them predictable.
But if a fan has been paying attention and not obsessed with the blood-lust and KO’s, there are many fighters employing techniques that are surprising their opponents.

One of these kicks is called the oblique kick. It’s a technique that requires a kick to attack above the knee and many times hyper extends it.
Jon Bones Jones has slowly made this kick popular as he’s done it many times to Quinton Rampage Jackson, Vitor Belfort, and Alexander Gustafsson.
Recently, we saw Conor McGregor apply this kick against Nate Diaz at UFC 196 where it landed above his knee and made his leg bend in a chilling way.
The kick has become an effective tool for many fighters as they are unsure as to not only when it will come but where in the body the fighter is aiming the kick for.
Savate, also known as French Boxing has been a martial art that seems to have been lost and forgotten. The martial art has been around the early 19th century. But a technique that they’ve effectively had in their arsenal and is still used today was the oblique kick.
In the video, the demonstration shows the two practitioners throwing various kicks, even spinning wheel kicks. Light on their feet, we eventually see the man in black throw a side kick and transition into an oblique kick.

Many may think that the oblique kick may be a new thing, but practitioners of Savate have been doing it for a long time now.
