Being an MMA reporter can be tough.
Reporters often find themselves on the receiving end of criticism from fans, fighters, and MMA organizations alike. And sometimes too, they are used as training tools by professional fighters. It can get pretty rough! Just ask Bo Jeuken, the young female reporter in the video below.
She was tasked with interviewing MMA heavyweight great Alistair Overeem, for the popular Dutch online magazine Volkomen Kut (Utterly Pussy) Show. Jeuken agreed to spar with ‘Reem, to take a body shot and swat to the face, and to be on the receiving end of his guillotine and rear-naked chokes.
The resulting interview is easily the oddest of Overeem’s career, and gave Jeuken insight into why Overeemnis called “The Demolition Man.” The brave reporter’s behavior in the below footage suggests she wasn’t prepared to be roughed up that way, but she was game, and even appeared to enjoy parts of it, to some degree, perhaps.
And to be clear, the reporter appeared to be asking for the interactions. If you ask ‘Reem to go harder, he will, even if you’re a little girl.
Here a young fan asks Overeem to punch him harder, and harder, and gets his wish.
These clips are sometimes edited together into a montage of Overeem hitting civilians, but in reality the context is always that they asked for it. Still, there is a lesson here.
The Lesson
Don’t ask Alistair Overeem to hit you. That’s a pretty easy life rule to follow.
