Usually when a striking based fighter goes up against a grappling based fighter, the grappler more often than not will emerge victorious.

In this old school MMA fight from day 2 of the IAFC Absolute Fighting Championship 2 in 1997, we see an older boxing based fighter take on a much younger grappling based fighter and it doesn’t go like you’d expect.

The grappler, named Igor Akhmedov, is said to have a background in jiu-jitsu but based on this fight that doesn’t seem like that’s the case. Based on how this fight goes and how it ends it is highly unlikely he has any background at all in Brazilian jiu-jitsu but it is very possible that he has a background in Japanese jujitsu which to be frank is nowhere near as effective.

Shortly after the action starts the boxer drops his opponent with a big leg kick but shows his inexperience by being taking down shortly thereafter. His opponent quickly gets side mount shortly thereafter and from there goes to the north/south position.

He doesn’t have control of the boxer however and he is able to work his way back to his feet. The boxer lands some nice punches briefly on the feet but he is taken down yet again.

Now if this guy really was a legit BJJ practitioner the fight would be over quite quickly, but instead the old boxer then wraps his legs around the alleged ‘grapplers’ neck in what looks like a vary amateurish triangle choke.

This is yet another proof that this man is no jiu-jitsu practioner and probably not even a grappler at all as he taps out from this makeshift ‘triangle choke,’ awarding the victory to the old boxer.

The old boxer, named Murat Kurmanov, went on to fight 3 more times in his MMA career, before retiring with a record of 3-1.
