Vale Tudo is an earlier version of mixed martial arts fighting that originated in Brazil and has very few rules especially when compared to modern MMA competition. Vale tudo events are usually bare knuckle and like MMA there are a variety of styles that can be used.

Vale Tudo has a long, storied history in Brazil that involves the legendary Gracie clan and it is actually in the vale tudo arena where they first proved the effectiveness of Gracie jiu-jitsu, long before the first UFC.

In this video from Russian amateur mixed martial arts promotion ‘Arrows Street Fight’ we see what happens when an old school vale tudo practitioner fights against a modern MMA fighter and it doesn’t go well to say the least.

Before the fight even starts you can tell the vale tudo guy is very much out of shape and quite overweight. There is no way you can perform at your best when you are carrying around that much body fat. Though some high level fighters can make it work like Roy Nelson, Mark Hunt, and Butterbean they are the exception to the rule and there is an argument to be made that they would be even better if they lost some of that body fat.

Though the big vale tudo guy proves to be pretty tough, he gets beat up quite badly here. He gets dropped multiple times by his younger, fitter MMA opponent and doesn’t really know how to defend punches all that well. They probably could have stopped it a little sooner too but that final knock out punch put an exclamation point on the finish in brutal fashion and forced them to finally stop it.
