Renzo Gracie, while not as well known as his brothers Royce and Rickson, may be perhaps the most colorful Gracie. He has a ton of great stories and even once live tweeted an altercation with some muggers who he had to teach a lesson.

In the following YouTube video, we see Renzo himself fighting a much larger boxer who outweighs him by forty pounds! Oh yeah, and it’s a bare knuckle fight too.

His opponent, the boxer James Warring is no bum either. He had an 18-4 record as a pro boxer but that’s not all. He was successful in other combat sports too. He holds a win over Vitali Klitschko is amateur kickboxing as well as a win over Erik Paulson in MMA.

The fight begins at the 1 minute and 20 second mark of the video and Warring does okay initially. He doesn’t rush in like so many strikers did against grapplers back in the day. He kept his distance well, pawed out his jab and even attempts an inside leg kick. He lets his back get a little too close to the cage though and really doesn’t know how to defend the takedown and Renzo gets him down pretty easily.

Once on the mat, you can tell Warring is a fish out of water. But at least he knows to grab a hold of Renzo and control his upper body to avoid ground and pound. Renzo eventually gets the mount and Warring tries to shake him off but Renzo is too heavy on top.

Renzo ends up unleashing some ground and pound but just uses that to set up his jiu-jitsu. Shortly thereafter, Renzo wraps his arms around Warring’s neck and forces him to tap out with an ezekiel choke. Now the ezekiel choke is usually seen with the gi on but can be adapted for no-gi use which we see Renzo do here. After the fight you Renzo being very respectful to his opponent, demonstrating his class and martial arts spirit.
