Whether you love him or hate him, it is impossible to deny that mixed martial artist Nick Diaz is one of the sport’s most interesting, enigmatic, and polarizing characters. Hailing from the mean streets of Stockton, California (also known as The 209, based on its area code), appears as if everything the man does is at least somewhat interesting and intriguing, whether he is in the cage, in front of a microphone, or at home styling on everyone with his rarely spoken of nunchuck skills.

Known by many names, including nunchaku, numchucks, ‘chucks, and juan-tuo, the nunchucks are a traditional martial arts weapon that originated in Okinawa, Japan consisting of two sticks that are connected at one end by a short chain or rope. Originally used as a rice flail, nunchucks were not a historically popular weapon because of their ineffectiveness against the most widely used weapons of that time, and because few techniques for its use existed.

Nunchucks entered the American public consciousness mostly when the legendary Bruce Lee used them in of his films, including Fist of Fury, Game of Death, Way of the Dragon, and Enter the Dragon.

In the video above, which appears to have been filmed in someone’s living room, Nick Diaz begins the nunchucks exercises slowly, but eventually moves on to wielding the ancient weapons with such smooth and impressive technique that even the ancient Okinawan warriors who used them so long ago might be jealous.
