With the growing popularity of mixed martial arts there is going to be a certain amount of peculiar behavior that the longtime martial artist must tolerate. Much like the growing popularity of backyard wrestling in the 90s, the current generation seems to be infatuated with backyard MMA.

During these events, rarely are there qualified professionals or even properly trained participants. We live in an as seen on tv generation and this could not be more evident in the video below.

From the ring marked by old tractor tires to the technically sound and informed commentary to the ringside doctor who appears to be wearing fingerless biking gloves in place of your standard latex, this video provides all the necessary elements for evidence of how our tv generation thinks…

In the video below we see a twist added to the traditional backyard mixed martial arts bout. The first thing that you will notice is that this appears to be a team event: two on two…however; the fatal flaw from the perspective of a seasoned MMA enthusiast such as myself is that there only appears to be one referee controlling the action and ensuring the safety of all four combatants. If I was to participate in such an event, I for one would not find this very confidence inspiring…I can imagine all types of horrific outcomes with the referee being preoccupied with other action.

Regardless of all of the things that could potentially go disastrously wrong here what we have at the core is an entertaining and intriguing event, albeit not exactly exemplary of intelligence or good decision making, that ends in devastating fashion.
