MMA, boxing, and kickboxing are all combat sports but there are still a lot of technical differences and subtleties in each sport that you may not be aware of.
In this video from martial arts YouTube channel fightTIPS, Shane goes over some of those technical nuances that unless you’ve trained in each art, you may not be aware of.
In the video, Shane starts out by breaking down the stances in each style and explains why they are all a little different.
In kickboxing or Muay Thai, for instance, you tend to have a much higher fighting stance to not only protect yourself from being kneed or kicked in the head but also to be able to check kicks and easily throw kicks of your own.

The high stance used in kickboxing differs from the lower, wider stance often used in boxing where you don’t have to worry about kicks or knee strikes coming your way.
Shane also explains in the video that the MMA stance is sort of the in-between point between the high stance of kickboxing and the wider stance of boxing.
In MMA, you obviously have to worry about both kicks and punches, in terms of striking, but you also have to always worry about being taken down to the ground. This is why you want to be a bit lower compared to a traditional kickboxing stance but not so low as to leave you open for say a knee strike, for example.
