MMA star Cung Le may have been retired from the sport for a few years, but it seems he’s still finding new ways to test his skills, even going as far as to spar two fighters at the same time.

The 45-year-old former Strikeforce middleweight champion posted this video on his Facebook page, demonstrating how he would deal with a self-defense scenario that everybody dreads – being outnumbered in a fight.

The footage shows Le using movement and takedowns to help even the odds as the two other trained fighters come at him.

In addition to the video Le also offered some useful tips to deal with a 2 vs. 1 scenario.

Always try to put one attacker in front of another using him as a shield, Le advised. Never stay in the middle and always hit and move so the other attacker does not have a sitting target when he attacks.

This drill will push your skills and cardio to the next level. Be safe and always empty your tea cup when training.

Born in Vietnam, but raised in the United States, Le first found martial arts as a way to deal with the bullying he faced on a daily basis, initially starting out in Tae Kwon Do classes at 10-years-old, then wrestling at high school as well as gradually being exposed to other arts like Judo and Sambo.

At the age of 19, Le discovered the Chinese martial art Sanshou and began competing. It proved to be a perfect fit and he would go undefeated in his 17-0 Sanshou career, including winning several major tournaments, while branching out to kickboxing brought further success, registering a 3-0 record in K-1.

Le then transitioned to MMA in the Strikeforce promotion and won six fights in a row, culminating in him claiming their middleweight title with a TKO victory over Frank Shamrock that would later be declared the ‘Fight Of The Year’ in 2008.

Towards the end of his career, Le would also fight for the UFC, registering a 2-2 record, before retiring with a 9-3 record in order to focus on his burgeoning acting career.
