Ray Elbe is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt and retired professional mixed martial artist, who began his career way back in 2002, before the sport was a legitimate path to fame. Little did he know at the time that in the wild world of MMA, he would be most famous for being the fighter who (brace yourself…) broke his penis. Ruptured. Fractured. Snapped. Regardless of the particular word you choose to use when describing the injury, there is just no getting around the psychological impact felt by simply imagining it.

Ray explains in the video above, I suffered a severe injury on December 3rd. Something that, as a guy, is the most unimaginable injury that can occur; and something that as a female I’m sure is very traumatic to have to deal with… but, I was having intercourse with my girlfriend, came out the top, and as it came down, I ended up breaking, fracturing, my penis. It’s actually possible, guys!

Somehow, Ray is able to maintain some semblance of a positive attitude and outlook, as he can’t help but smile incredulously at what has occurred and what he’s forced to deal with.

I tore the urinary tract, tore some membrane,” he said. “As it happened, you can imagine the shock and the horror that was going on. I jumped up from the intimate moment [with] blood shooting out of my groin. I immediately tried to run to the shower, felt myself losing consciousness, tried to walk back to the bed, at which point I passed out, knocking myself out.

Fortunately, despite the pain and horror Ray Elbe experienced that day, he has since made a full recovery, living up to his ring name ‘Magical Ray’.

When last heard, Elbe is reported to be happily dating Invicta Fighting Champion feathweweight champion Cris Cyborg.
