A controversial judges ruling followed by a spectacular knockout led to chaotic scenes inside the cage at a Russian MMA event in March of 2015.

The incident took place during the main event of PRO FC 57 at the Sports Palace in Rostov-on-Don, Russia, which featured a middleweight match-up between the promotion’s champion Shamil Abdulkhalikov and Mikhail Kolobegov.

After three rounds of fighting it appeared as if Abdulkhalikov had done enough to earn a decision victory and retain his title, but there was mass confusion and more than a little anger in the arena after officials bizarrely claimed that there had been a judicial error and announced that there would now be a fourth round to decide the winner.

Kolobegov seized that golden opportunity and turned it to his advantage as he launched into a flying knee strike mid-way through the fourth round that landed flush to Abdulkhalikov’s chin and sent him crashing face-first onto the canvas, out cold.

An animated Kolobegov began celebrating his highlight reel KO title victory as one of his cornermen ran into the cage to join him.

Meanwhile, two of the defeated fighter’s cornermen, who were furious at the fact the fight had even been allowed to go to a fourth round, vaulted over the fence and took out their frustrations by attacking Kolobegov and his cornerman, landing a series of punches and knees.

Other fans and officials then also swarmed into the cage, resulting in a sea of bodies that eventually managed to separate the two parties, all while the unfortunate Abdulkhalikov still lay unconscious on the mat nearby.

Cooler heads would prevail in the aftermath of the event, with the Pro FC promotion declaring the fight would be changed to a no-contest due to the bizarre judges decision that had sparked the unsavory incident in the first place.
