MMA in the early days with hair pulling and headbutts!

The strategy going into this tournament was to show how some grappling styles are not as effective in NHB (no holds barred) and street fights.

It is just so easy to use head-butts on the ground in close quarters as well as other techniques. The plan was to use them against Renzo Gracie but Mike was a tough competitor with a lot of heart and due to a split eyebrow I was not able to continue the tournament.

Because of that approach to this tournament however, this fight had a huge impact on the MMA and NHB world. It’s because of this fight that NHB fights were changed to MMA fights.

They decided to implemented new rules which changed the guidelines of all future fights, making it impossible to still call the fights “no holds barred.”

They said, “It is more like mixed martial arts.” That is when the entire MMA craze began. MMA used to be two different styles of Martial Arts competing to see which style was the best.

After a while in the UFC it became apparent that a hybrid style was best- creating what we call today MMA. Unfortunately this style is unregulated, anyone can train or teach their version right or wrong.

This is why today’s MMA students should look for an established style like Shootfighting.
