Japan has a rich history of making ‘interesting’ match-ups in combat sports. In 2009 the ‘Beast’ Bob Sapp was matched up with Ikuhisa Minowa at Dream 9.

It was an entertaining fight to say the least, and it was Minowa who walked away with the submission win against a much larger opponent.

Sapp was a former University of Washington football player who entered combat sports in April of 2002 when he debuted in Pride. Two months later, Sapp made his professional kickboxing debut for K1, but was DQ for punching on the ground. Sapp would continue to fight both kickboxing and MMA, but stopped fighting mixed martial arts in August of 2013 after losing twelve consecutive bouts. His record was 11-18.

In professional kickboxing, Sapp continues to fight and holds a 12-17 record.
