“Even to this day I’ll be thinking, how can I fight if I can’t see?”

Meet Lee Hoy, the blind fighter who won’t let anything hold him back.

CHI&Partners marketing agency has created a series of Do Your Own Thing” mini-documentaries for client iD Mobile. Each one focuses on an inspirational figure who determined upon an unconventional means to regain control of their life.

The fourth in the series is “Blind Fighter,” which in three tiny parts tells the story of Lee Hoy from South Shields, England. Hoy, 28, used mixed martial arts fighting to fight his fight with blindness.

Hoy was born with a parasite in his retinas, which left him legally blind. MMA built his sense of self, and led him to rethink how he received fear.

As the fighter explains, he “can’t see the punches coming. However, once he can clinch, I forget I’m actually blind. Even if it’s just for five minutes, it just takes that feeling away, and you feel free.
