In the video below we see an old school MMA fight involving a Hung Gar Kung Fu practitioner taking on a Taekwondo stylist.
This fight took place on November 25, 1995, in Moscow, Russia at the event IAFC: Absolute Fighting Championship 1 which was actually a pretty epic tournament that featured guys like Igor Vovchanchyn and Tra Telligman as well.
The Kung fu guy in this video even fought in the UFC too believe it or not. His name is Onassis Parungao and he beat Francesco Maturi at UFC 7 just a couple months prior to this fight.
His opponent, the alleged Taekwondo stylist, is named Pavel Byshiv and this was his one and only MMA fight ever.

Now, most of the time kung fu practitioners don’t do very well in competitions like this as kung fu is not really designed for competition. Nevertheless, the kung fu practitioner is able to overwhelm his opponent with punches in this bare-knuckle bout, forcing him to tap out a little over 2 minutes into the fight.
Though Onassis had a pretty good showing here and was actually one of the few successful kung fu fighters in the early days of MMA, he ran into some trouble in his next fight of the tournament. 6’8″ of trouble named Ricardo ‘The Mutant’ Morais who finished Onassis quickly with knees and ended up winning the entire tournament after fighting 3 more times that same day.

ABOUT HUNG GAR KUNG FU:
Hung Gar (Hung Ga, Hung Kuen, or Hung Ga Kuen) is a member of the family of kung fu styles known as Southern Shaolin Kung Fu. Legend has it that it was founded in the early Qing Dynasty in Fujian Province, China, by the tea merchant Hung Hei Gun.
The hallmarks of Hung Ga are deep low stances, notably its “sei ping ma” horse stance, and strong hand techniques, notably the bridge hand and the versatile tiger claw.
Hung Ga is sometimes mischaracterized as solely external; that is, reliant on brute physical force rather than the cultivation of qi; even though the student advances progressively towards an internal focus.[Source: Wikia]
