Jose Canseco is a former Major League Baseball player who was the American League Rookie of the Year in 1986 and Most Valuable Player in 1988, a six time all-star, two time home run champion, and twice led his team to World Series victory.

However, Jose Canseco may be even more famous for the things he has said and done off the field than he was for all the success he achieved in his playing days.

A man who never shied away from the spotlight, Canseco fully embraced his celebrity and milked it for all it was worth. Whether it was dating pop legend Madonna at the height of his fame, or using his name-recognition to appear on reality TV shows The Surreal Life and Celebrity Apprentice, he has always been unafraid to put himself out there to maintain his fame and make a few bucks.

In only the most surreal of lives could anyone have imagined or predicted that Jose Canseco would one day square off against 7’2/315lb Korean Colossus Hong Man Choi in a mixed martial arts match.

Now bear witness to a display of Jose Canseco’s bravery and stupidity that far outweigh any display of actual mixed martial arts training, skill or technique.

While Canseco’s martial arts history is based only on his unsubstantiated claims of being a black belt in the arts of karate, kung-fu and taekwondo, The Techno Goliath Hong Man Choi had already proven himself in combat sports, having amassed a respectable professional kickboxing record of twelve wins and six losses, as well as having competed in mixed martial arts against some of the sport’s all-time greats, including The Last Emperor Fedor Emelianenko and Mirko CroCop Filipovic.

When one considers not only the great size disparity between the two fighters, but also the great gap in combat sports experience, it is safe to say that it could have only happened in The Land of the Rising Sun, outside the reach of anything resembling an athletic commission.
