Pioneering US-born fighter and grappler Jeff Monson says he feels Russian in spirit and has been seeking to become a Russian citizen for the past two years. Now it has been granted.

The announcement was made on Friday following his win in Moscow via North South Choke vs. Russia’s Konstantin Skrel.

He is the second prominent US fighter to obtain the Russian citizenship this year, after legendary boxer Roy Jones Jr was granted citizenship in September.

Monson is known for his anarchist views, affiliations, activism, and even tattoos.

“I am an anarchist, someone who would like to do away with all class hierarchy in society and the institutions that promote this inequality,” he explained in an interview.
