Jason ‘Mayhem’ Miller proved just how fearless, and indeed crazy, he is when he agreed to a ‘David Vs Goliath’ style fight with a super-heavyweight giant in Hawaii back in 2006.
Only a year earlier the 6ft 1 tall ‘Mayhem’ had won the Icon Sport organization’s 170lb title, but had since moved up to 185lbs, bringing an overall 18-4 record to the ring that night.
On the other hand, ’Mayhem’s’ opponent was a former NFL Europe football player and veritable man-mountain named Stefan ‘Giant’ Gamlin, who stood 6ft 7 tall, and at 370lbs was literally twice the former UFC fighter’s weight!
Nevertheless, despite the daunting challenge facing him, ‘Mayhem’ was confident that he would emerge victorious.
“It’s a great opportunity because it shows that technique can prevail over raw power, Miller told starbulletin.com before the fight, though he also acknowledged that, “I better keep my head on a swivel and make sure I don’t get hit with anything.”
Meanwhile, Gamlin’s gameplan was to use his massive size, strength and power advantage to finish the fight as soon as possible.

“My best thing to do is go out and knock him out early,” Gamlin said. “I can’t play around with him or he’ll wear me out, like a cat chasing a mouse. I’m going to get the KO in under 2 minutes.”
Things didn’t go according to plan for Gamlin however, as it turned out to be ‘Mayhem’ who would finish the fight quickly.
Miller dropped to the mat after his opponent came out swinging, but then used his superior Jiu-Jitsu technique to get on top, land some big knees to the midsection from side control and then transition to a fight-ending arm-triangle choke with just 46 seconds on the clock.

Gamlin would retire from MMA after that, while ‘Mayhem’ would go on to fight for promotions like the UFC, WEC, Strikeforce and DREAM, in addition to hosting MTV’s ‘Bully Beatdown’ show.
However, it’s no coincidence that Miller is nicknamed ‘Mayhem’, and in recent years he’s been hitting the headlines for all the wrong reasons due to his erratic behavior and numerous run-ins with the law.
