MMA is a pretty complete sport which allows a great variety of strikes and grappling moves. You can punch, kick, knee, elbow, bring the fight to the ground, hit your opponent on the ground, and attempt submissions.

And that is what makes MMA one of the most entertaining sports in the world; such a versatile rule-set makes for thrilling, breath-taking bouts and fans love that.

Thing is, it seems like some people are not satisfied by the way MMA is right now, and have decided to bring it to a bizarre, new level.

Enter STICKFIGHTING WORLD. As you’ve probably gathered by the name, this promotion features MMA (minus the ground-fighting part) fights… with sticks. Yep.

Now, stick-fighting is a noble art. Martial arts such as kendo and escrima are intricate and beautiful, no doubt. They definitely have their place in the vast martial arts world, as does MMA. The question is: why in the blue f**k mix stick-fighting arts with mixed martial arts?
I don’t know really, but the fine folks over at STICKFIGHTING WORLD apparently thought it would be a GREAT idea.

The so-called ‘world’s first Mixed Weapons Martial Arts promotion’ features fights between opponents of the same sex in three two-minute rounds. Both fighters are armed with two sticks; they can punch, kick, knee, elbow, and take their opponent to the ground, all of this while swinging wildly with the sticks. Needless to say, the fights are bats*it insane, and pretty brutal, even though fighters do wear protective headgear.

MMA has come a long way since the last century. It has always evolved and has become what we know today. I don’t know if Mixed Weapons Martial Arts is the future of MMA; what I do know though is it makes for crazy moments:
