Fedor Emelianenko is one of the greatest heavyweights to ever fight MMA. For close to a decade, the Russian dominated the heavyweight division overseas and had very impressive wins over some of the world’s best fighters.
Emelianenko made his United States debut when he was signed by new promotion Affliction, created by a clothing company of the same name. Fedor’s first fight on US soil was an impressive 36 second submission of former UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia.
In his second fight for Affliction, Fedor fought another former UFC heavyweight champion in Andrei Arlovski. And although not as quick as his win over Sylvia, his first round knock out of Arlovski is one of the best knockouts in the history of MMA.
Arlovski starts with a kick to the body and a right hand that clips Fedor. Arlovski lands a low kick to Fedor’s left leg. And one to the right. Arlovski continues with low kicks as he samples a hard left to the body. Fedor clinches with Arlvoski. The former UFC champion tries to throw Fedor, but Emelianenko has none of it. The pace slows as the fighters clinch on the corner. Fedor presses the bigger man against the post. Referee Big John McCarthy restarts the action in the center of the ring. Arlvoski lands a right hand and kicks Fedor against the ropes. Arlovski jumps for a flying knee and is knocked out cold by a Fedor counter punch. Fedor was on his way to dropping the first round when the punch landed at 3:14 of the first.
