What is the worst possible outcome in a fight?
You could either be dominated for three rounds, get finished in the first or win a boring decision, at least that would be the standard line of thinking before watching the video presented below.
The video begins in the midst of the fight, the two men stand across from each other exchanging strikes before ending up in a clinch against the cage.

The man with his back to the cage even has double under-hooks before he appears to simply give up on continuing the fight, walking out of the clinch position after signaling for a timeout.
In the US, this would be ruled the end of the fight but for some reason the referee seems to give the fighter a moment before asking for him to continue again.
It is unclear why the fighter does it at first, but as he walks around the cage with everyone in complete confusion you are able to see the referee walk over to pick up a mouthpiece laying on the canvas.

It appears to be the disgruntled competitor’s as the referee walks over and attempts to give it back to him. The fighter tries to get them to open the cage door, but when it doesn’t happen quickly enough he jumps out of the cage and immediately begins to head backstage.
Without seeing earlier in the fight, it is hard for us to know whether or not it was poor officiating or if the fighter was simply spitting out his mouthpiece repeatedly to buy himself more time.
Although getting hit without a mouthpiece drastically raises the potential of the damage you can receive, you have to wonder if there had been a better way he could have handled this situation.
If this had happened to you, how would you have handled it? Do you think the fighter was in the wrong for quitting in the way and at the time he did?
