Sometimes it seems as if the phrase don’t blink or you’ll miss it has become tired, overused, and maybe even a little bit lame when used in the context of mixed martial arts and combat sports on the whole. We all understand that things happen quickly in this sport and a great deal of the tension, anticipation and excitement felt by mixed martial arts spectators is brought about by the fact that so many fights can, and have turned on a dime or changed all at once in just one split second.

Despite overuse of such a phrase, there still remains many situations in which it not only applies figuratively, but also applies quite literally. This is one such situation, as a spectacular knockout is delivered so quickly that I would swear I’ve had sneezes that lasted longer.

On March 14, 2015, British fighter Michael Shredder Garrett took on Sam Heron at Ultimate Challenge MMA in London, England and if you blinked, you really may have missed it.

The bell rings, then men meet in the middle of the cage, Garrett delivers a precise and powerful head kick that lands flush and leaves his opponent, Sam Heron, out like a light.

Despite many contesting the official time of the knockout and calling for a deeper examination of when the opening bell sounded and when the referee stepped in to stop the fight, it is impossible to deny that Garrett’s lighting fast KO of Sam Heron happened just about as quickly as it could have.

Ultimate Challenge MMA (also referred to as UCMMA) is a mixed martial arts promotion based in the United Kingdom. It is shown live on Primetime in the UK, Fight Now TV in the USA and on Viewster in several other countries.
