’Kan ik het bevechten’ (‘Can I Fight It?’) is a series from Dutch digital channel ‘101 TV’ straight out of the ‘Jackass’ school of entertainment in which human crash test dummy Roy seeks to find out whether he can compete with fighters from different disciplines.

Roy had already proven capable of taking a knock or two in a previous series called, ‘Kan Ik Het Berijden’ (‘Can I Ride It?’) in which he’d attempted to ride bareback on a number of different animals including a pig, camel and ostrich – invariably ending up in a heap on the ground before giving his final verdict on whether it was possible to use them as a means of transportation.

In the first episode of his new fight series Roy took on a sumo wrestler, but a more daunting challenge was up next in the shape of current UFC heavyweight star, Alistair Overeem.

Overeem is of course one of the scariest fighters in MMA, who at one point simultaneously held the Strikeforce and DREAM heavyweight titles while also being crowned the K-1’ kickboxing organizations World Grand-Prix champion.

Roy undoubtedly had his work cut out for him here, even if he did have the benefit of headgear, shin guards and the fact that Overeem wasn’t going 100%.

To his credit, Roy actually started brightly, managing to catch Overeem with a straight left to the kisser.

No doubt he instantly regretted that however, since Overeem went on the offensive, landing a hook kick that staggered him, then a spinning kick to the body.

Roy attempted a flimsy kick and punch that barely registered on Overeem’s massive frame, before he returned fire with a front kick to the midsection that dropped him to the mat.

You can stand up, an unsympathetic Overeem told him. It wasn’t that hard.

However, when Roy was asked if he wanted to give up he said that he did.

Overeem had other plans though and continued to press him to get back into the fray.

It wasn’t hard at all. Stand up. 3…2…1…Come on.

The peer pressure worked and Roy, undoubtedly against his better judgement, got back to his feet and headed back into the line of fire.

Overeem then continued effortlessly pinballing him around the room with strikes, including a left hook that practically turned Roy’s headgear backwards, sending him to the mat once again.

Showing serious heart, Roy got back up again where he was soon greeted with a fight-ending combo as Overeem clocked him with a right hook and then a nasty knee to the bread-basket that dropped him back down to his knees and led to the tap out.

As is tradition on the show, Roy was then asked the all important question – ‘Can I Fight It?’ to which he made it absolutely clear that the answer was a resounding, No!
