A highly controversial fight-ending kick led to a mass brawl in the ring at an MMA event in Europe recently.

The incident took place during the main event of ‘Megdan Fighting’ in Nova Sad, Serbia on April 22nd of 2017 as the 25-16 Vaso Bakocevic went up against the 5-0 Stefan Zvijer in a lightweight match-up.

It wasn’t the most thrilling of fights, but the action suddenly took a turn for the dramatic late in the third round after Zviljer’s foot slid on the canvas and he fell forward onto his hands and knees.

Before he could get back to his feet, his opponent – who goes by the highly appropriate nicknamed ‘Pyschopath’ – stepped in and launched a vicious soccer kick to his head that left Zviljer splayed out on the canvas.

Bakocevic then followed up with ground and punches as the referee rushed over to bring an end to the fight.

Needless to say, there was a lot of debate and confusion in the immediate aftermath of the fight regarding the legality of the strike.

Zviljer’s team were in no doubt, however, and so after they gave him time to regain his sense they helped him to his feet and raised his arm aloft, claiming that he was the winner as Bakocevic should be DQ’d for throwing an illegal kick.

’Psychopath’ was angered by that and pushed one of his rival’s team members and then launched a punch at him, which sparked off a brawl in the ring as members of both camp’s started lashing out at each other with punches and kicks.

Thankfully, others were eventually able to intervene and break up the fighting, but there would then be a lengthy delay before the official ruling was finally handed down.

In the end, the referee deemed that the foul that had left Zviljer unable to continue was not illegal and Bakocevic was then controversially declared the winner.
