Conor McGregor is arguably the biggest star in the UFC and mixed martial arts in the world. He is headlining UFC 194 next month in a featherweight title unification bout against Jose Aldo.
But like most fighters who have been in the sport long enough, McGregor’s record is not unblemished. Conor McGregor began his professional MMA career in 2007, winning his first four fights before losing by knee bar to Artem Sitemkov. McGregror would win his next fight, but again loss by submission in his sixth fight, this time to fellow countryman Joseph Duffy.
That would be the last time Conor McGregor lost a fight. After the Duffy fight, McGregor won his next eight fights and earned a shot in the UFC. McGregor debuted in the UFC in 2013 with an impressive win knocking out Marcus Brimmage.
McGregor would win his next four fights in the Octagon until he faced and beat Chad Mendes for the interim UFC featherweight title. Next, he will fight Jose Aldo in a title unification bout at UFC 194.
Often a champions last loss in an asterik in his record, but in this case, Joseph Duffy also continued to have success going 5-1 after beating McGregor and himself also earning a shot in the world’s biggest organization. Duffy debuted in the UFC with an impressive first round knockout of Jake Lindsey and followed it up with a win in his second fight, a triangle finish of Ivan Jorge Soares.
McGregor is now fighting in the featherweight division and Duffy as a lightweight, but knowing McGregor’s personality he will eventually want to avenge that loss on his record, especially considered it is against a fellow Irishman who is now also fighting for the same organization. It may take a while, especially if McGregor becomes the undisputed featherweight champion, but it is bound to happen eventually.
