Long Island MMA’s Chris Wade entered the Ultimate Fighting Championship a highly touted prospect, having suffered only a single loss, by unanimous decision to Ozzy Dugulbgov in the World Series of Fighting, and was coming hot off a win against the recently retired UFC veteran Frankie Perez. Since entering the UFC’s lightweight division back in August of 2014, Wade has quickly made a name for himself by rattling off four consecutive victories in the octagon against increasingly dangerous competition, with two coming by way of unanimous decision, and the other two coming by way of first round submission.
Chris Wade’s success comes in no small part from his ability to identify what does and does not work in the cage and what course of action will best serve him in the moment.
In this video, Chris comes to us from Ryan LaFlare’s Long Island MMA to provide a step by step breakdown of the headlock throw that has served him well both in practice and in his professional mixed martial arts matches.
The video begins with Wade showing how to secure the headlock on an opponent who is using strikes to set up a takedown, as well as how to use the headlock position to secure a takedown that will result in an advantageous position on the mat. From there, he explains how to achieve the same headlock position from a clinch situation, as well as how to take it to the ground from there.
