Move over John Wick, as it looks like we have a new assassin in town. Starring Academy Award winner Charlize Theron; Atomic Blonde is an action thriller set in 1989 that follows a spy who has to locate a list of double agents who are being smuggled into the West on the eve of the collapse of the Berlin Wall.

Taking some visual and action cues from the aforementioned hits John Wick and its sequel, Charlize went through a rigorous training regime aptly titled ‘Fight like a Girl’.

I had incredible teachers who were incredibly patient with me. Right from the beginning, the trainers and fight choreographers were very clear with how I was going to fight. how a woman would really be able to fight and not break every bone in her first.”

According to director David Leitch, he was so impressed with Charlize’s skill on set, he altered the fight direction to include longer takes and fewer cuts, utilizing elements from striking to grappling to weaponry.

“She’s been the top one percentile of actors who do their own action.”
