In this MMA fight from 2007, we see what happens when accomplished boxing champion Yōsuke Nishijima fights kickboxer and MMA fighter Melvin Manhoef and it quickly gets quite brutal.

As a boxer, Nishijima was actually very accomplished, holding several titles in the cruiserweight division including the WBO NABO cruiserweight title, the OPBF cruiserweight title, and the World Boxing Federation Cruiserweight title. The same can’t be said about his MMA career, however.

He had four MMA fights prior to this one against Manhoef, losing all of them. In his defense, though he really was thrown to the wolves in a lot of ways. For instance, his very first MMA fight was against Mark Hunt – an elite MMA heavyweight who outweighed Nishijima by about 100lbs.

You would think after having such a hard time his first four MMA fights they would give him someone a little easier for his fifth and Melvin Manhoef is far from that which we quickly find out in this video.

Manhoef, despite being inconsistent, is a former ‘It’s Showtime’ champion in kickboxing and had some performances in his MMA career where he looked like an absolute destroyer.

Manhoef proved to be way too much for Nishijima in this fight. He clobbers the Japanese boxing champion with big punches on the feet before taking him down to the ground where he finishes him with some very brutal ground and pound.
