Back in 2010, former boxing champion Ricardo Mayorga was scheduled to fight an MMA bout against former UFC fighter Din Thomas for the now defunct promotion, Shine Fights.
This event was marketed as a boxing vs MMA which was all the rage in 2010 as it was the same year Randy Couture fought former boxing champion James Toney.
There was a lot of build up for Mayorga’s fight with Din Thomas, and the two came to blows at this press conference before the fight which you can see in this following video.
The two traded verbal barbs initially but Mayorga upped the ante when he blew his cigarette smoke in Din’s face during the stare down, a very disrespectful move that Din Thomas didn’t appreciate and responded back with a hard shove.

Later in the video, after the smoke cleared so to speak, Din let his guard down momentarily and Mayorga took a swift cheap shot at him, nearly hitting him with a back hand strike that looked like it almost landed on his throat. You can see it at the 3:44 mark of the video.
Though it was a cheap shot, Mayorga’s hand speed was pretty impressive and notice him instantly bring his hands up afterward, wary of the counter.
Unfortunately those were the only shots these two ever got to throw at each other however, as the fight would never come to be.
Mayorga was signed with Don King at the time and Don filed a legal injunction right before the fight which prevented Mayorga from competing and this fight never ended up happening.
