This YouTube video shows a BJJ Blue belt taking on a challenger with 15 years Martial Arts Experience, Black belt in multiple disciplines. It doesn’t seem like any of those disciplines are effective however, at least in this video.

Surprisingly enough, the BJJ blue belt spends a fair amount of time in this one standing up and striking with his opponent. You’d think that’s where the ‘black belt in multiple disciples’ would have his big advantage but it seems like the blue belt has taken a few muay thai classes as well.

His striking is much better and cleaner looking. He lands several leg kicks on his opponent over the course of the contest and this challenger doesn’t have any answer for him. It seems as if he doesn’t have any training whatsoever, and the blue belt, who is clearly a novice in BJJ, knows enough to have his way here.

It just goes to show you how effective a martial art BJJ is when compared to most traditional martial arts. In BJJ training you are always competing against a resisting opponent when rolling. In most traditional martial arts schools this is not the case.

The blue belt ties up and pulls guard early on and locks up an arm bar on his opponent. The challenger refuses to tap however and the blue belt cranks it but he’s able to slip out and land a punch (the only effective strike he lands in the contest). Back on the feet both men are obviously not experienced strikers but the edge goes to the BJJ blue belt who at least has some knowledge of effective striking.

He eventually ties up again and goes for a guillotine and uses it to get his opponents back and finishes him off with a rear naked choke.
