Immediately after losing his UFC Lightweight title to Frankie Edgar back in 2010, BJ Penn found himself in the awkward position of having to go out on a media tour to promote his biography, ‘Why I Fight’, which had just been released in stores.

As part of his hectic promotional schedule Penn found himself live on FOX News where he was asked by one of the hosts, Brian Kilmeade to demonstrate on him how he’d use his MMA skills to subdue to attacker.

Despite still being banged up from his five round battle with Edgar a couple of nights before, Penn agreed and took Kilmeade down on some matting that had been provided, then moved into side control.

However, it turned out that Kilmeade (who coincidentally was part of the broadcast team for the first three UFC events back in the early 1990’s) had too much of an ego to just be a willing participant in the demo, so he started struggling underneath Penn as if his life depended on it.

Co-host Gretchen Carlson tried to speak to Kilmeade and Penn asked whether he wanted to give up, but he ignored them both, apparently too pre-occupied with making a fool of himself on national TV while others in the studio looked on in disbelief.

In the end Penn resorted to sitting on the hosts head in north-south position while cranking on a kimura submission. Luckily for Kilmeade another concerned looking host moved in to de-escalate the situation before Penn started removing his limbs.

After that Brian’s going to need some new health care, and that’s what we’re going to talk about (next), a wide-eyed Carlson quipped as the dishevelled Kilmeade was sheepishly helped back to his feet.

The awkward moment later caught the attention of comedian Jon Stewart who joked on ‘The Daily Show’ that, Sacha Baron Cohen planned to put his balls in Eminem’s face, but BJ Penn wrestling Brian Kilmeade was God’s will.
